Devon Custalow was born in Richmond, Virginia, and growing up he focused mostly on singing and throughout Elementary and Middle School, and he participated in school choirs, All-County Chorus, District Chorus. Entering high school at Henrico High School where he was a student in the Center for the Art’s: Musical Theatre program for all four years and the Dance program simultaneously his senior year. This is were his foundation was built by the minds of Victoria Fink, Tony Colden, & Becky Ferrell. Devon also was a member of both the marching band dance team “Pure Elegance” and the step team “Elite Steppers” throughout his high school career. After graduating in 2014, he began his secondary education, attending Shenandoah University as a History Major with a Dance Minor. In his Junior year though, he switched to a BA Dance Major with a History Minor. In spring of 2018, before he was intended to graduate the following Fall, Devon was offered acceptance into the Joffrey Ballet School: Jazz & Contemporary Trainee Program, in Manhattan, New York, were he is currently training and has trained with the likes of Angelica Stiskin, Bradley Shelver, Thomas Ford, Micheal Waldrop, Phil Orsano, Stacy Caddell, and many more. These people have contributed to the current strengths and knowledge in Devon’s expanded training in areas such as Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Horton, Graham, Theatre, Pointe, Partnering, Improvisation, and Critical Analysis. Outside of his codified technical training Devon also trains in Heels technique, where he is the founder of the DevChoreo brand and the Pump N Pumps Heels class series.
