Dress Code
VDC DRESS CODE & UNIFORM GUIDE
At Virtuous Dance Center (VDC), proper dance attire is an important part of each dancer’s training. Our dress code allows instructors to clearly see alignment and technique while helping dancers develop discipline, confidence, and professionalism. Appropriate shoes and secured hair help keep dancers safe.
All dancers are expected to arrive to class in the appropriate attire with hair properly secured.
Thank you for helping us keep VDC classrooms safe, professional, and focused on great dance training!
BALLET ATTIRE
Hair must be secured and away from the dancer’s face. Long hair should be secured in a neat ballet bun.
Please use hair pins, clips, hairnets, and hairspray as needed to keep hair secure throughout class.
Ponytails and messy hairstyles are not appropriate for ballet class.
Dancers with short hair should secure their hair away from the face as much as possible.
Dancers must wear the VDC-approved leotard color assigned to their class or level for every ballet class.

Ballet shoes should fit like a second skin, snug and secure with no extra fabric. Never buy soft ballet shoes with “growing room,” as loose fabric can cause tripping or blisters. Pointe shoes traditionally do not come in a variety of colors; however, we recommend pancaking the dancer’s pointe shoes to coordinate with the dancer’s tights whenever possible to create a clean, continuous line through the leg and foot. For a step-by-step guide to pancaking your pointe shoes please visit https://pointemagazine.com/how-to-pancake-pointe-shoes/
